CONWAY — “Fun Home,” M&D Playhouse’s latest production, which opens Thursday, Aug. 10, with performances Thursday through Sunday for the next three weeks at the Eastern Slope Inn Playhouse in North Conway, is an emotionally rich musical about a woman trying to come to terms with her sexuality and her dysfunctional family.
Based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic memoir of the same name, “Fun Home” features music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by Lisa Kron. It shows Alison at three ages: a 43-year old graphic artist (Stacy Sand), a 19-year-old college student at Oberlin (Molly Connor) and a 10-year-old (Brooke Lavoie). The musical is structured as a series of non-sequential memories, as adult Alison looks back while drawing and writing what will become “Fun Home.”
