You know winter is coming when the White Mountain Milers Breakfast Runs start. Sunday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m. is the first of the breakfast runs held at the Dowling residence on Wallis Way off Crown Ridge Road.
Sorry, I missed a few columns but I was hiking in Tuscany, Italy, and it was just amazing. Usually, when I travel, I look for races in the area, but since we were hiking about 100 miles and my hiking/life partner thought I should stick to our plan, I didn’t check this time.
The days are getting shorter and colder, but don’t put away your running shoes just yet. There are still a few good races left in the season before people start trading in their running shoes for snowshoes and skis.
This weekend starts what should be a new tradition on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5 and 6, the Bubba’s Backyard Ultra. “Anyone willing to toe the line” is invited to run the 3.5-mile course and the winner will be “the last man standing.” Go to runthewhites.com for full story and info.

Last Saturday, we took a trek over to Waterville Valley to run the Black Bear Half Marathon. A challenging course took us over roads, Nordic ski trails, single and double track, and bike trails, and made for a fun event.
Take the kids to Story Land on Monday, Sept. 2 for the annual Labor Day Believe in Books Literacy Foundation Fun Run. The race starts at 9 a.m. and some of the Story Land characters will be there.
The Freedom Old Home Week 5K race took place on Aug. 10 with 27 walkers and 51 runners finishing the course.
