The odd couple pairing of Sandra Oh and Awkwafina in “Quiz Lady” is something I didn’t know I needed in my life. As estranged sisters, they’re so good together, I’d watch them go anywhere.
The script by Jen D’Angelo sends them to a gimmicky “Jeopardy”-style quiz show. The motivation for getting the sisters there is a bit of gimmick in itself. They need to pay off their MIA mother’s gambling debt to save their kidnapped dog. While the setup is sitcom-y, the execution has a lot of big laughs, strong character moments and sincerity.
