Obituary: William John Volk

William John Volk, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 17, 2026, after a long illness. He was born on Jan. 24, 1942, to Agnes Volk (née Byrne) and William F. Volk in Cambridge, Mass. Bill spent his early years in Stoneham, Mass., and enjoyed summers at Hampton Beach. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School and went on to attend Tufts University, where he participated in the ROTC program. Following his graduation in 1963, Bill proudly served his country as an electronic warfare officer aboard B-52 bombers in the U.S. Air Force. After completing his military service, he embarked on a long and successful career as a senior systems engineer at IBM.

Bill’s enthusiasm for life was evident in everything he did. He devoted countless hours building homes for the Mount Washington Valley Habitat for Humanity, cherished his friendships as a longtime member of the Ski-Bees Ski Club of North Conway, and found great joy in skiing, hiking, golfing, tennis, and scuba diving.
