Elaine Marden Shackford, 70, passed away peacefully on Sept. 15, 2026, after a yearlong fight with bladder cancer. Elaine was born on July 24, 1956, in Trenton, N.J., to Richard and Joanne Marden. She spent portions of her childhood in Harrisburg, Pa., before her family later made their way to Wolfeboro, N.H. Eventually, Elaine settled in Conway, NH, where she spent the majority of her life.
When Elaine first moved to N.H., she studied Ski Area Management and worked at Cranmore Mountain making snow, helping with rentals, marketing, office management and became the first female snow groomer. This is also where she met her husband, Stephen Shackford. Elaine and Stephen were married on June 25, 1988, at the summit of Cranmore Mountain with a panoramic view of Mount Washington Valley, surrounded by a large gathering of family and friends. It was a memorable beginning to the many years they would share together.
