To the editor:

For some reason that is not exactly clear, this year Carroll County has only two Medicare Advantage plans to choose from. One of them is for nursing home residents, so it’s really only one. Many people are about to be kicked off their health insurance plan, as about half of eligible residents in Carroll use Advantage instead of traditional Medicare. The situation is equally grim in the most rural parts of our state, including Coos, Grafton and Sullivan. The more populous, younger and wealthier parts of the state have many plans to choose from.
