Marvel Comics maestro extraordinaire Stan Lee, who created or co-created the vast majority of superheroes that now dominate our cultural landscape, including Spider-Man, the Hulk, the X-Men, Doctor Strange, Iron Man and the Fantastic Four, passed away Monday, Nov. 12, at 95.

I didn’t read superhero comics as a kid. Instead, I read the comic book spin-offs of two of my favorite cartoons, “The Ren and Stimpy Show” — which was published by Marvel — and “The Mask: Animated Series.”
