CONWAY — Facing the possibility of a budget increase of $1.7 million, the Conway School Board is looking for a way to trim that figure.

Some board members believe it should come from personnel — specifically, reducing the number of aides within the district.

As a career educator with extensive experience, I am shocked the target to reduce costs is support staff. Certainly the writing of this piece implies such. The time and consideration to determine least restrictive is extraordinary. Honor that time as evidence support is appropriate. The values of a community are explained by whatever it spends time and money on, its rituals and celebrations. Is reducing support staff to balance a budget what is valued ? Money ? Clearly the decision makers haven't spent much time in a classroom. Ask the parents what they think. It's their money, their children.
