Peter Gagne river

In 2019, Bartlett resident Peter Gagne complained that authorities need to address the old Bartlett dump, which is eroding into the river and causing metal and glass to be swept miles down the Saco. (DAYMOND STEER PHOTO)

BARTLETT — Bartlett has been sued for $2.5 million amid claims the town failed to address a former dump on private land that is leaching into the Saco River. Meanwhile, a state settlement involving a different landfill could spare Bartlett taxpayers by using civil penalties to pay for remediation of the site.

The deal still must be approved by Grafton County Superior Court Judge Jonathan Frizzell.
