At seven movies in, most film franchises are skimming the bottom of the barrel, but "The Fast and the Furious" series defies all logic. The "Furious" movies didn't truly hit their stride until No. 5, and they have been keeping that pace ever since.

Back in 2001, "Fast and the Furious" centered on illegal street racing and the relationship of undercover cop Brian (Paul Walker) and top street racer Dom (Vin Diesel). After a few movies focusing on racing, the franchise moved away from those humble origins to become adventure films complete with elaborate action set-pieces to rival James Bond.
