TAMWORTH — The Barnstormers Theatre starts out its 88th season in rousing, riotous, rambunctious revelry with a tremendous production of Mel Brooks’ “The Producers,” which opened Thursday, June 28, and is playing through July 7 in Tamworth.
Late film critic Roger Ebert often told the story of sharing an elevator ride with Brooks shortly after the original “Producers” film came out in 1968. A woman got onto the elevator, recognized Brooks and said, “I have to tell you, Mr. Brooks, that your movie is vulgar.” Brooks smiled and replied “Lady, it rose below vulgarity.”
