CONWAY — Residents upset with the Kearsarge Lighting Precinct’s outsized legal spending nearly had enough votes to slash the commissioners’ budget, but a proposed cut failed in a tie vote.
The KLP covers parts of Bartlett and North Conway. In addition to street lighting, it has zoning responsibilities. Commissioners and the treasurer presented a proposed 2026 budget of nearly $96,000, including $60,000 for legal fees tied to several state and federal lawsuits, one of which alleges racism.
