A lot is being written about “Black Panther” being a watershed movie in Hollywood, which it absolutely is, but what shouldn’t get lost in the discussion of representation and box office records is that it is an excellent piece of entertainment.

As was true with last year’s “Wonder Woman,” “Black Panther” has struck a chord by showing audiences something they hadn’t seen before. “Black Panther” isn’t the first black superhero film — “Spawn,” “Blade” and “Meteor Man” came before it — but it is the first of this scale and the first to have a primarily black cast telling a story deeply tied to African roots and traditions.
