CONWAY — The Majestic Theatre in Conway will open its Gothic Winter Film Series with a screening of Guillermo del Toro’s dark masterpiece, "Pan’s Labyrinth," on Friday at 7 p.m. The film is rated “R,” restricted to patrons over 17 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

This 2006 film is set against the brutal backdrop of post-Civil War Spain in 1944. It’s a visually stunning fantasy that follows a young woman, Ofelia, who has been sent to live with her cruel stepfather. She sets out to escape the harsh realities of her life and enters a mysterious stone labyrinth where she encounters a mythical faun who tells her she is a princess, but must overcome three perilous challenges to prove her royal lineage. Her surreal journey blurs the lines between myth and reality.
