“Mean Girls” is the latest movie to be based on a Broadway musical, based on a movie. It’s actually a burgeoning subgenre with December’s “The Color Purple” following the same lineage. It puts these films, including “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Hairspray” and “The Producers,” in the position of being both remakes of the earlier film and adaptations of the stage version.
