As you are reading this week’s installment of North Country Angling, it is frigid. The January thaw of the last week is just a memory. However, as the owner of a fishing shop, there were several anglers and guides who shared their fishing memories from this year’s thaw.

It is very rare during the winter to have a customer purchase $100 worth of flies. As I counted out the flies, there was a definite theme. The customer had one cup filled with big, heavy streamers. The other cup was filled with small, jig-style nymphs.
