It was our first campout of the season and the first-ever for our 6-year-old grandson, Iver (McMurdo-Minnich). We wanted a campground that offered lots of activities and amenities. We could do without hook-ups but thought flush toilets and showers would be nice. The youngest camper had two things he wanted to do — ride his new mountain bike and fish. The oldest camper (Peter Minnich, grampa) wanted some shade from the hot sun. I wanted to ride and swim.

Moose Brook State Park, in Gorham, was the place we chose to go to. It has large, shady campsites, a very nice bathhouse and campground roads to ride. Across the road from the main camping area, is a “warming” pool where cold water feeding in from Ice Gulch on Perkins Brook mixes with Moose Brook waters in a large pond. Here, anglers, young and old, can practice their casts.
