This week’s Tele-Talk question: Would you vote for an ordinance that bans new short-term rentals but allows existing ones to remain? Voters in April will decide whether to prohibit new short-term rentals in residential areas, except for owner-occupied properties. However, the regulations proposed by the Conway Planning Board would grandfather hundreds of existing short-term rentals, allowing them to operate indefinitely. Other communities that have attempted to ban short-term rentals without grandfathering existing ones have faced legal challenges — and lost.
