To the editor:

Tariffs do not work. The increased costs are passed to the consumer which leads to slowing of the economy. Far more concerning are Donald Trump's proposed tax cuts for the wealthy. It was similar cuts in his previous administration that helped balloon the national debt leading to devaluation of the dollar and inflation. Economists predict the result this time would be worse. What he promotes is "trickle-down economics, the idea that the very wealthy are the job creators. In the 30 years since the Republican Party started pushing this notion, there has been no evidence supporting this. In truth, these cuts make the wealthy richer at the expense of the poor and middle class.
