FRYEBURG — In January, a Fryeburg police officer shot and killed an armed suspect who threatened him with a knife after leading police on a chase through town. On the same night, just down the street, a Conway couple was seriously injured in a crash with a sheriff's deputy who was involved with the incident.

On Jan. 30, Kenneth Ellis, 52, of Hyannis, Mass., led police on a chase, struck several vehicles in Fryeburg, Maine, and then crashed into a snowbank in front of Norway Savings Bank. Ellis exited the truck, reportedly brandished a knife at police and was shot dead by Fryeburg officer Michael St. Laurent, who was placed on leave as per standard protocol.
