CONWAY — It’s Memorial Day, a time that has evolved into the unofficial launch to the summer tourism season. But let’s not forget it’s officially when we try and pay our respects to the nation’s fallen by attending observances to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice (see accompanying schedule for local events planned for Monday, May 25).

Since the start of America in 1776, an estimated 1.2 million U.S. service members have died serving our country. That includes 651,000 killed in action, and hundreds of thousands who died from non-combat causes while defending our country.
