On Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. writers' night at the Effingham Library will feature Pablor Flores and poet Skip Manning. Each month, the meeting room in the Effingham Public Library fills with poets, writers, musicians and listeners. Flores, who shared his gift of poetry, traditional music with a flair and passion which has not been forgotten, returns to the Effingham Library with more music and poetry, speaking in Spanish, as well as English. Manning is another poet, who comes each month with a book under his arm, always with a poem that is real and down to earth, from his heart of New Hampshire style.Flores, who was born and raised in Honduras, holds a bachelor's degree in sciences and literature with a major in theology and a minor in philosophy. He currently offers educational workshop for children and adults on the origins of traditional music in the Americas and traditional bamboo wind instruments. Since the summer of 2006 Pablo has resided in Ossipee.Manning defines writing as, an attempt at expressing yourself, by the pursuit of the best phrases or images, and eventually if you are lucky finding honesty. He describes himself as a small town boy, farm boy, factory worker, family man. He has learned what he knows about poetry by reading the classic American and English writers. If you see him without a book, check his pulse , and, in the interest of credibility, dont tell his friends. Manning is co-host with fellow poet, Ed Pacht, of The Fifth Wednesday/ Left -over Beans Rochester Poetry venue, held at the Old Oak Tavern. Manning distributes a poetry events calendar, and sends daily e-mails with poetry from an online poets-birthday calendar.Writers Night is for those who write music, poetry, prose, fiction, non-fiction and for those who enjoy listening. Each month features one or two writers followed by an open-mic opportunity for others to share a piece of original writing or acoustic music up to five minutes in length. Light refreshments are served. For more information contact Katie McCarthy at 539-7694 or katiemccarthy@roadrunner.com or Marilyn O'Kelly at the library at 539-1537 or marilyn@effingham.lib.nh.us.
