CONWAY — The Airbnb market in the Mount Washington Valley has become increasingly competitive, making it harder for individual property owners to generate the returns they once expected from short-term rentals.

Brendan Battenfelder, vice president of Badger Peabody & Smith Realty in North Conway, said there is still strong interest from investors who see short-term rentals as a way to offset the cost of owning a second home. But the market has become saturated with inventory.
