“The People’s Joker,” a low-budget queer coming-of-age story that uses the characters and iconography of DC Comics and the Batman universe, will be screened for free on Sunday, June 2, at 7 p.m. at M&D Playhouse at the Eastern Slope Inn Playhouse in North Conway Village as part of White Mountains Pride slate of events during Pride Month.
Alec Kerr, film critic for The Conway Daily Sun, and guest host Greg Vander Veer, a White Mountains Pride board member to review "The People's Joker," which will be screened for free on Sunday, June 2, at 7 p.m. at M&D Playhouse at the Eastern Slope Inn in North Conway Village as part of White Mountains Pride slate of events during Pride Month.
Starring, edited, co-written and directed by Vera Drew, “The People’s Joker” tells an autobiographical story of an unconfident transgender girl who is trying to make it as a comedian in Gotham City where comedy is outlawed except for one government-sanctioned late night comedy show “UCB Live.” At the United Clown Bureau, you can either be a Jokeman or a Harlequin. The Harlequins’ job is merely to dance sexy and laugh at the Jokemen.
