The Greatest Showman

“The Greatest Showman,” a new movie musical about P.T. Barnum featuring songs from the lyricists behind “La La Land,” is meant to be full of wonder and spectacle with moments that move and inspire through songs that soar. At times, the film achieves these goals, but I kept finding myself removed from the experience.

Reactions to movies can often be cut and dry. You either love or hate them and can clearly explain why. My response to “The Greatest Showman” was more complicated. I enjoyed it but something seemed ever so slightly off that couldn’t easily pinpoint at first.
