10-26-18 Halloween

Jamie Lee Curtis returns to the "Halloween" franchise for the fifth time to face-off against unstoppable killer Michael Myers in an installment that ignores all the previous sequels. (COURTESY OF UNIVERSAL PICTURES)

The opening credits of the new “Halloween” features a rotten jack-o-lantern as it is slowly brought back to life. It is an apt metaphor for a film that is attempting to resurrect the rotted corpse of the “Halloween” franchise.

In a classroom scene from the original “Halloween,” a teacher discusses a fictional author’s belief that fate is “immovable like a mountain. It stands where man passes away. Fate never changes.” That description can also be used to describe Michael Myers, the masked killer at the center of “Halloween.”
