Heathers TV Show

From left: Veronica Sawyer (Grace Victoria Cox), Heather Chandler (Melanie Field), Heather Duke (Brendan Scannell) and Heather McNamara (Jasmine Mathews) return in this 10-episode TV update of the 1988 cult movie "Heathers." (COURTESY OF PARAMOUNT NETWORK)

The new nine-episode TV update of “Heathers,” the 1988 Winona Ryder and Christian Slater-led black comedy about high school cliques with a murderous twist, has the potential to become a cult darling just like its cinematic predecessor, if it can survive its unceremonious dump onto the public.

“Heathers” was originally developed by Viacom as an anthology, with each season looking at teen angst with a body count in various settings. Reports say that season two would’ve been set in the court of Marie Antoinette. Alas, that will not come to pass. We’re lucky to even be seeing the first season.
