The Fryeburg Academy Alpine teams are red hot heading into next week's State Meet. The Raider boys and girls enjoyed plenty of success Thursday night on the slopes at Shawnee Peak in Bridgton. Both teams took top honors on the evening. "Greely snuck a couple of girls in the mix to bust up the girls parade of perfect scores, which is all right," Craig Estes, Raider's head coach, said. "We still had a great showing from the girls with seven out of nine racers in thetop ten. The course was very fast and there were some great times posted by everyone. We were without Meghan Harrington and Taylor Lucy due to the WMC Nordic Championship race."Fryeburg's girls scored 12 points to win the meet, topping Greely, 35; Lake Region, 59; and Freeport, 69. Leading the way for the Lady Raiders was freshman Amy Dyer, who continued her winning ways, taking first in the two-run giant slalom in 58.98. She was followed by Jamie Allain, second, 1:02.68; Hailey Dyer, third, 1:04.85; Katie Trafford, sixth, 1:09.22; Leigh Butters, seventh, Brooke Anderson, eighth, 1:10.86; Amy Ackerly, 10th, 1:13.11; and Lee Guptill, 14th, 1:18.21.For the boys, Fryeburg took the team title with 26 points followed by Greely, 36; Freeport, 58; Gorham, 69; and Lake Region, 93."The guys are showing some great improvement as we start to wrap up our season," Estes said. "Chris (Guptill, assistant coach) and I are extremely excited about the up coming state championship races which start on the 17th. We feel that the girls have got a great shot at the Class B Alpine title as well as the overall title. The guys have a really great shot as well, they should be right up there in the top three for the alpine title, as well as the combined title.Matt Soule was the top skier for Fryeburg, placing second on the night in 58.06. Hot on his skis were Matt Bell, fourth, 58.66; Tim Atwood, seventh, 1:02.42; Emerson Clarke, 13th, 1:04.88; Joel Barker, 15th, 1:05.21; Luke Sawyer, 17th, 1:06.26; Ben Tupej, 33rd, 1:15.08; Brian Day, 36th, 1:20.14; Chris Wilfong, 37th, 1:23.31; and Chris Gregory, 38th, 1:27.04.The Raiders closed out the regular season last night with a slalom race at Shawnee Peak (results not known as of press time).
