OESTERSUND, Sweden — With the Winter Olympics less than nine weeks away, the U.S. Biathlon Team opened its 2025-26 World Cup season in fine fashion on Saturday. The U.S. men, with Center Conway’s Sean Doherty skiing the anchor leg, placed an impressive fifth overall in the 4X7.5K relay in Oestersund, Sweden.

Skiing and shooting in difficult wind conditions, the U.S. squad of Paul Schommer (Appleton, Wisc.), Maxime Germain (Chamonix-Mont Blanc, France), Campbell Wright (Wanaka, New Zealand) and Doherty finished fifth out of 21 teams. This was Team USA’s best result for the men in a relay since their fourth-place finish at the 2024 Soldier Hollow World Cup in Utah.
