Fryeburg falls in the lacrosse semis

FRYEBURG — All good things must come to an end, and that was the case for the record-setting Fryeburg Academy boys’ lacrosse team, who fell to Lincoln Academy by 12-11 in the Maine Class C semifinals on Tuesday June 12. The Raiders set school records for most wins (12) fewest losses (two), and furthest advancement in the state tournament (semifinals).

The Raiders started out really strong, having earned home field advantage and the second seed against third seeded Lincoln (13-2). The Raiders jumped to an early 5-0 lead, beginning when Caleb Eklund scored off a pass from Liam Chisari. Caleb Bowles followed with a goal off a clearing pass from Gavin LaChance. Caden Daigle found the back of the net assisted by Eklund. Bowles' second of the game off a pass from Evan Caracciolo and Eklund's second off a pass from Caden Daigle put the Raiders in the driver's seat with a 5-0 lead late in the first quarter. At that point, Raider Coach Matt Haley felt his team may have been a bit too confident, and let up on the pressure. Also, the Flyers made some adjustments, particularly focusing more defensive attention on Eklund and on preventing quick counter-attacks. Lincoln rallied to score three goals to make it 5-3 at the end of the first.
