CONWAY — After two weeks, the Kennett High football team sits atop the Division II East standings with a 2-0 record. The Eagles have displayed a dominant defense along with an explosive offense to open the seasons. Concerns about rebuilt offensive and defense lines have been tempered by daily improvement and the team is also developing some depth at key positions.
KHS opened its season with a hard-fought 14-7 road win over Gilford-Belmont (1-1) in Gilford on Sept. 2. The hometown flock was scheduled to play its home opener at Gary Millen Stadium against Pembroke Academy (0-2) last Friday night but during pregame warmups thunderstorms arrived, prompting the game to be moved to Saturday morning. Played in stifling heat, the Eagles sizzled in all aspects of play, winning easily 49-22.
