FRYEBURG — Soccer, known worldwide as the beautiful game, can also be cruel at the same time. The Fryeburg Academy girls’ soccer team carried play last Tuesday in the local derby against rival Lake Region in Naples, Maine, but fell just short in the most important place, the scoreboard. The Raiders lost 1-0 and saw their playoff hopes fall by the wayside in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Just eight teams (down from 10 in 2024) qualify for the Class B South playoff this fall.
