JACKSON — Jackson selectmen gave a break to a short-term rental owner who reportedly had an overcrowded home on Columbus Day weekend because of his willingness to discuss the issue with them at their meeting Tuesday.

Rather than having an infraction count as one of three strikes against his short-term rental permit, the board opted to document the incident and put it in the file. The town gives a warning for the first offense, a $275 fine for a second offense and pulls the permit on a third offense. After that, the owner can't reapply for six months.
