CONWAY — In his 33 years at the helm of the Kennett High softball team Peter Ames has seen almost everything in the sport, but on Friday afternoon the hometown flock gave him a new first. The Eagles dialed long distance by walloping three home runs in an inning for the first time in the program’s history. Sam Johnson hit the first of her two homers of the day to open the fifth inning, Olivia Stewart followed with a laser that may not have landed yet and Marissa Henry hit a bomb of her own to help Kennett to a 15-3 sixth-inning victory in a game that ended due to the 12-run mercy run.

“I’d never seen us hit three in an inning before today,” Ames said after his troops posted their third straight 12-run mercy rule victory in a row. “It was nice to see, all of them were well hit.”
