CONWAY — It was a week like no other for Bernie Livingston. In his more than three decades as head cross-country coach at Kennett High School, Livingston has never had a week where so many of his runners were sick. More than half of the team fell victim to the illness that spread on the KHS campus last week, forcing a number of lineup changes for Kennett’s meet in Madbury on Saturday.

“Thirteen kids didn’t run due to sickness,” Livingston said on Monday. “Over half the team during the week or at the meet was ill. I’ve never seen anything like this before. We had 25-30 kids sick. I had to pull up two boys and two girls from the JV team to the varsity for the race on Saturday. Celia Lynn, Ellory Kerns, Ben Klementovich and Hunter Krebs all ran great. Three of the four ran faster than at Great Glen Trails the week before.”
