CONWAY — The full New Hampshire House of Representatives on Thursday voted to kill a bill that would have allowed putting for a tax on second homes that are valued at more than a million dollars, despite the objections of state Rep. David Paige (D-Conway), who argued that the bill never received the two public hearings it was entitled to.
The bill, HB 1786-FN, was titled “Relative to creating a state assessment on non-homestead luxury second homes to fund statewide housing development programs and address housing shortages and making appropriations therefore.” If approved, the legislation would have taken effect Jan. 1, 2027.
