There’s March sadness when skiers hear of Nordic centers closing down for the season. Despite the best efforts of trail crews and groomers, there comes a time when managers say, “That’s it!” It doesn’t make sense in terms of economics, labor or time to keep operating when there isn’t enough snow or interest remaining.

King Pine’s Purity Springs Ski and Snowshoe Preserve was the first to announce “no more grooming” on its Nordic trails. Then, Mount Washington Valley Ski Touring announced its closing on March 11.
