Fishing Column - Mink at the Upper Dam

A mink (center) was looking for fish at Upper Dam but came home empty handed, like us. (STEVE ANGERS PHOTO)

Labor Day is the recognized start to the fall fishing season. It's an opportunity to switch gears and perhaps do something a little different than the norm. With this in mind, Leslie and I decided that a trip to Rangeley, Maine, was in order. Rangeley is the place of big brook trout and the home of Carrie Stevens, streamer fly tyer extraordinaire.

We plugged our destination into the GPS and it was suggested that we drive to Lovell, Bethel and Rumford, Maine, and north on Route 17. It was fun to follow the Androscoggin River and then climb the mountains on the way north.
