North Country Angling: It’s salmon time

April 1 is the opening of New Hampshire’s landlock salmon and lake trout season. This is the first time in recent memory that our big lakes, Silver Lake in Madison and Conway Lake in Conway/Eaton, will be free of ice so that the trolling crowd can have full access to these waterbodies. All the big lakes south of town are open as well. It is setting up to be a memorable season for catching these fine gamefish on open water.

For those who have never had the pleasure of catching a landlock salmon, this is the year to get your equipment together and come up with a strategy for making it happen. These are the things to take into consideration when planning to angle for landlock salmon and to a lesser degree lake trout.
