11-25-2023 North Country Angling- Noll Fly Tying Kit

The Noll Fly Tying Kit began the author’s lifetime enjoyment of tying flies. (STEVE ANGERS PHOTO)

The holiday season is a time to create memories. As an angler, so many personal memories revolve around fishing. The fly rods like the L.L. Bean Guide Series or the Eagle Claw Starfire. The fly reels like the Pflueger Medalist or the Valentine click and pawl (still my favorite reel of all time.) There was one gift that had the biggest impact on my life’s journey: The Noll Fly Tying Kit.

The kit was a young tyers dream: Vise. Thread. Tinsel in gold and silver. Head cement. Wax. And then the cellophane bags. Wool. Floss. Chenille. A rainbow or colors. Peacock Herl. Bucktail. Wet fly hackle. Dry fly hackle. Quills of duck and turkey. A big plastic box filled with hooks. A pamphlet on how to tie different flies.
