A beautiful day on Southwest Ridge Trail

A favorite nearby Maine hike is the Southwest Ridge Trail on Pleasant Mountain in Denmark, Maine. This 2.7 mile trail, combined with 0.2 miles on the upper Ledges Trail, brings you to the open summit of Pleasant Mountain (2,006 feet), with its tall fire tower and impressive view west.

A friend and I did it on a recent Saturday. Rather than return to our car on the same trail, we spotted a second car at the base of the Ledges Trail and descended that way, making for an enjoyable 4.7 mile hike.
