Conway School Board member Dick O'Brien and other town and school officials toured Kennett High this week with an eye to the $12.8 million renovation planned as part of the $46 million building bond going to voters Nov. 4.If the bond is approved, the old building will be renovated as a middle school. More than $1 million of proposed $12.8 million is for site work, including $459,500 for roadways, an additional 100 parking spaces, sidewalks and landscaping and $700,000 for athletic fields, two junior high tennis courts, and an underpass beneath the railroad tracks to the fields. Most of the $9.6 million in construction costs is for renovating 119,150 square feet for a middle school at $80 per square foot. The old wing of the high school will be mothballed, a small part of the building will be demolished, and a new entrance way will be built in the rear of the school. This week's question is: What do you think of the $12.8 million plan to renovate Kennett High as a middle school if a new high school is built?Call 356-2550 all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday and leave your comments on our machine.
