On Aug. 28, Gov. Chris Sununu issued an executive order establishing a commission to study the impact of New Hampshire schools setting start dates before Labor Day, and to evaluate whether schools should start after Labor Day. In the order, Sununu says the percentage of kids starting school after the holiday has dropped to 50 percent and New Hampshire should evaluate whether starting school later would have a positive impact on academic performance, state tourism revenue and family vacation time. In the Mount Washington Valley, based on the teacher union contract, schools in SAU 9 started Aug. 30 this year. State Rep. Karen Umberger (R-Conway) has been appointed to the “Save Our Summer” commission and recently sent out an email to get a temperature as to how businesses feel about this.

This week’s Tele-Talk question: Do you agree with Gov. Sununu that all New Hampshire schools should start after Labor Day?
