At Wednesday’s Conway town deliberative session, citizens debated the merits of Article 24, which is on the warrant for April 14 voting. The article calls for $25,000 to pay a company to inventory short-term rentals in town with an eye toward eventually regulating such rentals. Former selectmen Mark Hounsell and Stacy Sand, a real-estate agent, tried to reduce the funding to $1, saying the one-time “snapshot” would be useless and that the town has enough zoning laws. Others said the town needs to know how many rentals it has, and Town Manager Tom Holmes said regulations are needed to deal with the “bad apples” that disturb the peace for neighbors. Ultimately, the article survived as written.

This week’s Tele-Talk question: Is spending $25,000 to inventory short-term rentals a good idea?
