Change is hard. It always has been, but it is often necessary. Our county is now in the throws of a change; changing its idea about how to deal with its elderly population that is growing and predicted to grow even faster in the future. The future population of elderly will be living at home longer, often alone. Those who find the need to move into a nursing home will expect a different kind of experience than the present nursing home offers. That is what guided the commissioners, the architects, the building manager, the delegation members and the dedicated people who worked on the building committee and together came up with the present design. It is time that we look toward the future in our planning, keeping in mind that what we build must last for years to come, without costing us now, and those who will pay the bills later, excessive dollars.
