To the editor:

Partisan politics seemed to take a back seat recently when the U.S. Senate agreed to make daylight savings time permanent. Perhaps there could be hope for another bipartisan agreement, if the senate took up the issue of the penny. Let’s stop minting pennies. They cost 1.76 cents each to make and most of us could do without them. The Canadians stopped making theirs in 2013. While we’re at it, we could nix the nickel which costs 7.42 cents to produce.

So you are okay with items going up 10 cents at a time? Without pennies or Nichols, gasoline would have to go up 19 cents at a time…heating oil went up $2 in just over three months. And most of the time it was in intervals if 2 cents or 5 cents. According to my oil dealer, #2 heating oil went up 40 times in the last three months. So if it could only increase in increments of 10 cents…that would increase the price by $4!
