To the editor:

Wars between two governments that support, or whose citizens believe in, different religions are difficult because each side believes that God is on its side. Witness the European wars after Martin Luther entered the scene, fighting the Italian-dominated Catholic Church. This was a great driver of immigration to the American colonies, where followers of different cliques within Protestantism, such as the Quakers, established their own local rules.
