There seems to be some controversy on the left side of the aisle about whether illegal immigrants get free health care. I did a quick search and found some figures from the biggest blue state that coddles illegal immigrants — California.
Undocumented immigrants cannot access federal funds for health care. California chooses through their state-funded Medi-Cal to give health care to all residents. They choose, their money. When you move to CA you can vote against that. California is the 4th largest or so economy in the world. They are a donor state. What does that mean? Where does all the money come from for, let’s see, the military, ICE, FBI director to use a jet, that we pay for to go on date nights, $40 Billion to Argentina, it comes from taxes. CA pays more than $83 billion in federal taxes than they get back from the federal government. The blue states and the blue counties in red states, are the ones that fund the government. The red states are the primary benefliciaries of federal dollars, they get more than the give, SNAP, Medicare, etc.
CA can use their money however they want.
Maybe the blue states should stop funding the government?
When we are approaching $40 Trillion in federal debt, no state is a donor state. They are just less in debt than others. And if you look at the unfunded liabilities that California has (at least $1.6 Trillion), then they aren't even breaking even. Using accounting tricks to balance the budget is not fiscally responsible, but California voters are probably hoping the Democrats will eventually bail them out somehow, perhaps by having the federal government assume the liabilities (just add it to the federal debt).
