To the editor:

There is a new financial phone scam targeting seniors in the MWV. The scammers call you directly or, if the call is unanswered, leave a voicemail requesting a callback. In the call or voicemail, a woman using various names inquires about a pending loan application for $64,000 that needs additional information for the underwriting department to complete the process. Given the size of the “loan” being offered, many people may be tempted to follow up on this “offer” as a way to consolidate debt or obtain cash.
