To the editor:

The Tamworth Town Meeting on March 10 will vote on Warrant Article 32 to repaint the Chocorua Village crosswalks, which are becoming invisible. Surprisingly, after several meetings last year, the select board voted not to repaint the crosswalks because N.H. DOT feels the two crosswalks that cross Route 16 need flashing beacons (called RRFBs) or else should be discontinued. This is hard to understand — Route 16 is busy enough that DOT wants flashing beacons but crosswalks are not necessary? Then why do N.H. statutes say pedestrians should use crosswalks and that drivers must stop for people in crosswalks?
